Etnam Street Bridge

Bridge1 Bridge2

A single arch over the Pinsley, close to, and in fact, partly beneath the White Lion Inn. In 1664 14s were needed ‘for planks and for mending the bridge’.

This masonry bridge over the relatively narrow Pinsley was the route taken by townspeople and carts carrying grain, to the Pinsley (or Etnam Street) Mill, and one would have expected it to be needed from an early date. The bridge is also marked as ‘stone’ on the Ogilby strip map of 1675.
